MLD to Present our Own Version of Mary Poppins
Moving Light Dance is incredibly pleased to announce our Spring 2024 performance will be Mary Poppins, to be presented June 1st and 2nd at the Barre Opera House! All dancers enrolled in Moving Light Dance classes have the option to participate in the performance.

Join us for a jolly, fantastical evening of adventures with the most magical of Nannies, Burt the wise street artist and fun-laughing Uncle Albert as they reveal what matters most to the Banks family!
Presenters of The Green Mountain Nutcracker, Moving Light Dance Company return to the Opera House for their annual spring performance with a cast of 70 dancers of all ages and community members. This original ballet features all new choreography, costumes, sets, and lighting design, supporting a storyline taken from the book written by P.L. Travers as well as the popular cinematic adaptation of this beloved classic. The ballet is set to a carefully assembled musical score that seamlessly weaves together new music by Mary Jane Austin, some familiar tunes, and British Light Music.
The ballet opens at number seventeen Cherry Tree Lane where Mary Poppins blows in on the east wind and arrives at the Banks home where she is given charge of the Banks children. She teaches them valuable lessons with a firmness and a magical touch. Jane and Michael enter Burt’s drawing with Mary Poppins where butterflies, woodland animals and penguins join Burt and Mary Poppins for jolly dancing. They ride the carousel horses that jump the carousel to end up in a horse race in which Mary Poppins wins first place and is celebrated with a fantastic carnival! The adventures continue for Jane and Michael with Tea at Uncle Albert’s, the Red Cow and Shooting Star, the Bird Woman and Birds and a disastrous trip to the Bank with Mr. Banks. Burt finds the children afraid and wandering the streets of London and shares his life as a chimney sweep. Mr. Banks arrives home defeated to find all has been stripped away and the thing that was missing most is his joyful spirit, present within and shared with his family.
Brought to the stage with choreography by Christine Harris, Chloe Reynolds, Brandy Perez, Carissa Bellando and the dancers with costumes by Emily Wheeler, set designs by Joe John, props by Joel and McKenzie Taplin and lighting by Craig Mowery, a spectacular performance is guaranteed.
