Young ballet dancers

During the summer months, following the Spring Session, Moving Light Dance offers a summer session for students of all ages. These sessions vary year to year but are often comprised of a mixture of classes, camps and performances.

Summer sessions provide dancers the opportunity to work intensively and practice for consecutive days. This allows for a deepening understanding of technique, process and body awareness in a short amount of time. The results are rewarding, and we have a really good time!

For younger students ages 4-6 we offer a half day camp with dance and visual arts. Dancers warm up with animal inspired yoga, explore ballet and modern through our theme and make masks, banners, wands or crowns which we share at an informal performance at the end of the week. Some themes offered through the years are; Fairies and Elves and Carnival of the Animals.

For dancers ages 7-9 we offer a full day Dance and Visual art camp that includes a more indepth dive into ballet and modern techniques. Camps often include some set making as well as props. Themes include Peter and the Wolf and Wild Things.

Intensives for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced have daily Ballet Technique, pre-pointe or pointe and Modern or Contemporary classes. We work on a classical ballet variations as well as an original modern or contemporary piece. Dancers will show their work at the end of the week.

The technique and dance making intensive gives dancers the opportunity to fine tune their ballet, pointe and modern technique in a concentrated amount of time as well as explore dance making through improvisation and collaboration. Dancers will learn a classical ballet variation, a pointe variation and modern choreography as well as work independently to discover their movement style and collaboratively to create an original dance.

Performance Intensives gives dancers the opportunity to fully delve into the process of creation and preparing to share work through a formal performance. Dancers will learn ballet, pointe (for adv students), modern and contemporary choreography as well as work collaboratively to create movement through improvisation and exploration for select pieces.

Mini Intensives offer 4 longer evening technique classes a week. Enjoy a variety of classes and teachers in a week and stay in shape!
