A Christmas Tradition

With a Vermont Twist

The Green Mountain Nutcracker

The Moving Light Dance company is proud to present Vermont's only interpretation of the holiday classic, told with it's signature local twist. Performed annually at the Barre Opera House in late December, Moving Light Dance's Green Mountain Nutcracker introduces a Maple Sugar Fairy, Loggers and moose instead of reindeer. The 60-member cast is made up of professional company dancers and local students and performs to original choreography by Christine Harris, Willow Wonder, Avi Waring, Natalie Wheeler and Vladimir Roje. Vermont musician Colin McCaffrey adds his own music to Tchaikovsky’s familiar score.

The Green Mountain Nutcracker really is a celebration of what it is to be living in Vermont — the snow, the leaves, the community, the culture, the stacking wood. It’s an exalting of those qualities. Vermonters are hardworking people; dancers are hardworking people, and there’s joy in hard work. I think you feel that in our ‘Nutcracker'.
